What to pack for a dental trip to Turkey

Travelling to Antalya for dental treatment is an exciting experience. To ensure everything goes smoothly, it is worth preparing properly. Here is a practical guide — what to take, what to remember, and what to expect.

Documents and formalities

Essential documents: • Passport or ID card — EU citizens can enter Turkey with an ID card (stays up to 90 days). Make sure it is valid. • Booking confirmation — hotel, flight, coordinator contact. Print or save on your phone. • Medical documentation — if you have a panoramic X-ray, CBCT scan, or previous test results, bring them. The Antalya dentist will perform new diagnostics regardless, but historical data may be helpful. • Travel insurance — we recommend purchasing a policy covering medical expenses in case of unforeseen complications. • Medication list — if you take regular medication, prepare a list with names and dosages.

Oral hygiene for the trip

Your suitcase should include: • Soft toothbrush — you will need a gentle brush after the procedure. Best to bring one along. • Toothpaste without harsh abrasives — a gentle formula is better for freshly prepared teeth. • Dental floss — ideal for maintaining hygiene between visits. • Chlorhexidine mouthwash — the dentist may recommend it post-procedure, but good to have ready. • Orthodontic wax — useful if temporary restorations irritate the gums. The partner clinic also provides hygiene products, but having your own ensures comfort.

Clothes and personal items

Antalya is a Mediterranean resort, so pack according to the season: • Summer (June–September): Light clothing, sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat), comfortable walking shoes. • Spring/Autumn: Layered clothing, light jacket for evenings. • Winter (December–February): Temperature rarely drops below 10°C, but a warmer jacket is worthwhile. Remember comfortable clothes for procedure day — you will spend several hours in the dental chair, so comfort is key. Swimwear — if you plan to relax by the sea or use the hotel pool.

Electronics and communication

Essential devices: • Phone with internet access — communication with the coordinator is mainly via WhatsApp. Ensure your SIM card supports roaming, or buy a local one at the airport. • Charger — sockets in Turkey are standard European type (C/F), so no adapter needed for most European plugs. • Power bank — useful for long days at the clinic. • Headphones — make waiting time more enjoyable. Optional: tablet or e-reader for hotel evenings.

Food and diet after the procedure

In the first days after the procedure, diet plays a crucial role in healing: • Procedure day and the next: only liquid and soft foods — yoghurt, cream soups, smoothies, pudding. Avoid hot foods. • Days 3–7: gradually introduce softer foods — pasta, rice, scrambled eggs, fish. • After one week: return to a normal diet, but still avoid very hard foods. In Antalya, you will have no trouble finding suitable food — Turkish cuisine is rich in soups, yoghurts, and gentle dishes. Consider packing protein powder or your favourite protein bars in case solid food is difficult in the first few days.
