Veneers — how to choose and care for them

Veneers are thin ceramic or composite shells bonded to the front surface of teeth. They allow you to quickly and effectively improve the colour, shape, and symmetry of your smile. Here is everything you need to know before making your decision.

Types of veneers — porcelain, E-max, composite

There are three main types of veneers available: Porcelain (laminate) veneers — a classic solution with excellent aesthetics and durability. Made in a laboratory based on impressions or 3D scans. Require minimal tooth surface reduction. E-max veneers (lithium disilicate) — an advanced ceramic type with exceptional translucency and natural appearance. Very thin (as little as 0.3 mm), meaning minimal tooth tissue preparation. Currently the most popular choice in premium clinics. Composite veneers — made directly in the dental chair (bonding). Cheaper and faster, but less durable and more prone to staining. Suitable as a temporary solution or for minor corrections.

Who are veneers for?

Veneers are an ideal solution for people with stubborn discolouration, uneven tooth shapes, small gaps (diastemas), chipped or worn edges, and general dissatisfaction with smile aesthetics. It is important that teeth and gums are healthy — any cavities or periodontal inflammation must be treated beforehand. Veneers are not suitable for severe bruxism without a protective guard, or for significant missing teeth (where crowns or implants are better). The decision about veneer type and quantity is made after a personal consultation with the dentist at the partner clinic.

How are veneers placed in Antalya?

The veneer placement process at partner clinics in Antalya is well-organised and typically takes 5–7 days: Day 1–2: Full diagnostics — examination, panoramic X-ray, 3D scan, smile design (Digital Smile Design). The patient sees a visualisation of the result and approves the design. Day 2–3: Tooth preparation — gentle surface reduction (0.3–0.7 mm), impressions or scans taken, temporary composite overlays placed. Day 4–5: The prosthetic laboratory (within the clinic) fabricates the final veneers from the chosen material. Day 5–7: Try-ins, colour and shape adjustments, final bonding — permanent attachment with specialist cement.

How to care for veneers daily?

Although ceramic veneers are highly resistant to staining and damage, proper care significantly extends their lifespan: • Brush your teeth twice daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive toothpaste. • Use dental floss daily — especially around veneer margins. • Avoid biting very hard objects — unshelled nuts, ice, pens. • Limit strongly staining foods and drinks — ceramics are resistant, but surrounding natural teeth may stain. • If you clench your teeth at night, use a night guard. • Visit your dentist regularly — every 6 months for a check-up. With these habits, E-max veneers can last many years.

Veneers vs other options — what to choose?

Veneers vs crowns: Veneers cover only the front surface of the tooth; crowns encase it entirely. If a tooth is severely damaged, the dentist may recommend a crown instead of a veneer. Veneers vs whitening: If the issue is colour alone (no shape defects), professional whitening may be a simpler and more affordable option. However, veneers provide a longer-lasting effect and additional shape correction. Veneers vs composite bonding: Bonding is cheaper and faster, but less durable. Porcelain veneers are more resistant to staining and maintain their aesthetics longer. The final decision on the best solution is made by the dentist after an individual consultation.
